This is a quick note before I begin more regular blogging.

The show in Ridgefield, Connecticut was cancelled. They hadn’t sold enough tickets. I feel a little bad about it. But on Wednesday night I am doing “Letting Go of God” in Portland, Oregon for 850 people, so my defenders say that this is all due to poor press and publicity. In any case, I am really fine about not doing the show there. It takes a lot of effort to do the show, and now that the movie is nearly available, it seems that the movie should do the work from here on out. I really feel bad about the people who did buy tickets, but I guess they will be refunded.

In the meantime, I am doing an appearance at the science festival in New York City this weekend. Portland on Wednesday, then off to New York for the weekend. That seems like it’s going to be really fun. I’m also planning on attending some of the other events as well.

I really got wiped out by the wedding, which was more wonderful and meaningful than I imagined it would could be. Thanks so much for all the well-wishers! I’m still recovering from it.

Other news before I call it a night:

Jill and I plan on opening the “Jill & Julia Show” sometime around August 23 in Los Angeles. We are hoping for a several-month run through the end of the year. This is why I also cancelled the Iowa “Letting Go of God” show. I knew we would be up and running the J & J show, and it would take me out of two weekend shows in order to do that show. Basically, except for readings, I have stopped performing the Letting Go of God stage show.

On the movie front, I am really excited about the movie premiering at the Seattle Film festival on June 13. Seattle’s Women in Film are throwing me a cocktail party after the Friday screening, which is really nice. Today I worked with my graphic designer on the poster for the movie, and I really like it. The trailer is basically done too. I’m really tickled with it – I got a great producer to make it, it’s very good.

My website it really out of date, and I promise that I will update it in the next day or so.

I cannot imagine your show "going over" in Ridgefield, CT so I am not surprised at the low ticket sales. I used to live there and it just is not the type of area that would appreciate a show like yours. Low tolerance for what is different, I think.

Welcome back!

I agree with Teresa ... a couple dozen of us from the local atheist/secularist group were getting excited about the Iowa show -- we hope you make it here some day!

Still, better to cancel early than late, and we're relieved to learn that the cancellation wasn't because something bad had happened.

Good luck with the J&J show.

I apologize for whatever keeps *not* happening for you here in Connecticut. As an embarrassed CT resident(and atheist), I am HEARTBROKEN that I will be missing your show at Ridgefield Playhouse for a second time! UNACCEPTABLE, Ridgefield Playhouse! So many people have been unhappy with how they run things there( or lackthereof), but today I was also informed that I'd get a refund but because I paid for tix with cash it would take a (quote)"really loooong time". She said dismissively, "uuhhh..cash. That could take a looong time. If you had paid with a credit card, it would be different, but with cash..well...your refund will ..ooohh.. take a loooong time". WTF?! Okay. Fine, but why make such a big deal- like I'm complicating their accounting by paying cash? This same woman from the box office actually tried to get me see a Gallagher show instead, and I said, " Oh JESUS..You must be joking.".
Sorry for my venting, Julia, but you deserve SO much better than their neglience and lack of promotion.

Oh, their lobby smells funny.

Congratulations on your marriage and good luck tomorrow night in Oregon. Portland is a great city and while my friends and I are personally really disappointed about missing your live CT show, we have all of your recordings and remain big fans.

Love, Quinn

Hey Julia,

Any chance you'll share a photo or two of the wonderful day, please?

I hope some smart someone in LA decides to do a cable special of the J&J show. The six minutes I saw online of your TED conference performance makes me want to see MORE! And sadly, not every enlightened person lives in LA or NYC!

Congrats, Julia! Glad the wedding was more than you expected---perhaps I will have one of my own one day, thanks to the CA Supreme Court!

Here's my thought for the LGOG poster (I know you have one, but here's what popped into my head):

Julia stands in a wide open area (a park?); a small girl stands beside her, looking up quizzically at Julia (perhaps it's little Julia?) and clutching a rosary in her hand; Julia faces camera (onlookers)...or maybe up at the helium balloon floating above her, attached to the string she's holding; on the balloon is Michaelangelo's 'God touches Adam' image from the Sistine Chapel; clearly at any moment, the balloon could be released, along with our concepts of the Supreme Being....

Hmmmm, just a thought. Can't wait to see the film!

Thank you so much for coming to Portland. I've enjoyed the CDs of your shows for years and caught "God Said, Ha!" at the Chicago Film Festival so it was great to finally see you in CHURCH of all places.

I'm really disappointed about the Iowa show as well. I'd been looking forward to it since I read about it months ago. I really hope you can make here sometime.
