That SNL opening Sarah Palin/ Hilary Clinton sketch last night was one of the best things I’ve ever seen on that show. They nailed it. It was everything it should be and more. I hope that sketch is YouTubed to oblivion and the message is actually heard! I hope every news show repeats it. I hope everyone watches it at least twice (I watched it three times in a row.) OHMYGOD, Tina Fey nailed that accent. I am having hope! Amazing, I am having hope for the country from an SNL sketch. But really, truly, I do I do I do.

It was brilliant. A classic for the ages!

Jeez, you knew Tina Fey was going to come out of retirement for that? You SNL types have a secret clubhouse or somthing? My immediate first impression of Sarah Palin was that she was doing an impression of Tina Fey doing an impression of her. It's kind of like George Bush (The Elder) and Dana Carvey or Clinton and Hammond. The impersonations seem more like the person than the people do.

Wow! My shibboleth was "dmywrk" (Do My Work) and I am writing a book about Laziness. What a coincidence.

Nothing against Tina Fey, but lets all just hope SNL doesn't need to bring her back after November!

Very funny stuff. I could only stay awake for the first couple of sketches.

The Home Schooling sketch was pretty funny. My sister in Ohio home schools all six of her children and their home has a direct satellite TV link to Bob Jones University that downloads their lessons directly onto a Tivo type recorder. I'm not kidding! Scary! I think people in our cultural bubble don't realize how pervasive this Taliban-type behavior is in this country.

My sister's family aren't the backwards hicks portrayed in the sketch, but they do have extreme beliefs that scare me.

Michael Phelps was goofy and adorable.

The Tiny Fey portrayal is making the rounds quickly. I found this video online in which three morons from Fox "News" discuss it. Note how they only show the part that makes Hillary look like a jealous fool, and then end it up with a discussion of how SNL never spoofs Obama (which isn't true).

Best line EVER! "If the media is lacking balls, they can borrow mine." - Amy Poehler as Hilary Clinton

Tina Fey NAILED it. You are SO right. As I said before, I just hope that we see Tina for eight weeks and then she can happily return to 30 Rock, and Sarah Palin can disappear into the ether from whence she came.

Someone asked me if Sarah Palin had the right experience to be President. I said that was like Gandhi have the right experience to take over the mob.

*sigh*

"Bristol Palin made the decision on her own to keep the baby, McCain aides said."

Sorta surprising that a pro-lifer felt there was a decision (aka choice) to be made...

just my $0.02,

100% agree.
Fey's Palin is one of the best impressions I've ever seen on SNL. Maybe the best "true to life" impression, as far as really trying to imitate the person without making too much of a characterature (like Will Ferrell does with Bush).

I think we'll be seeing a lot more of Fey in the next couple months (it's not like she'll have to go far from her other 30 Rockefeller set!). But as much as I love the impression, let's hope that it will be completely irrelevant after November 4th and Palin will slide back into oblivion.

... too bad the rest of the show really stunk it up

Interesting piece on Salon.com about a moderate minister, Howard Bess, who clashed with S. Palin in the 90's.

Julia, I totally agree. Watching it happen live, I just knew I was watching something that would be memorable for years, an instant classic.

Julia, I agree that Tina's sketch was brilliant and she nailed the accent, but I have to tell you the first time I heard Sarah Palin I instantly thought of your "over the top" impression of your mother. There is an intense/emphatic quality that is so dead spot on. I really hope to see you take a crack at doing candidate, not VP, Palin. Best Wishes.

Very good.

Obama owes Tina Fey a cabinet position if he gets in office. If Obama wins, we all have Tina Fey to thank for single handedly turning Sarah Palin into a mockery and knocked her off of her 'little television darling' pedestal.
